Types of Wood Flooring

Solid Hardwood Flooring

As the name suggests, solid wood flooring is made of solid wood from top to bottom. Its biggest advantage is that it can be sanded & refinished numerous times throughout its lifespan. As this is the original option of wood flooring, your choice of wood species such as Oak, Hickory, Maple, etc. will be much more vast. This option gives to the most creativity, as you get to choose all options from species, design, color & finish options.

Engineered Unfinished Wood Flooring

While engineered wood is made up of real wood, only a portion of the top layer is solid and considered “sandable” while the bottom layers are made using multiple wood veneers or slats of wood, glued together at opposing directions. This product comes with a raw wood top layer, requiring sanding and gives the customer the option of choosing a stain color on site to fit the look of your space as well as the finish that is applied.

Engineered Pre-finished Wood Flooring

While engineered wood is made up of real wood, only a portion of the top layer is solid and considered “sandable” while the bottom layers are made using multiple wood veneers or slats of wood, glued together at opposing directions.

As described in it’s name, this product comes already stained & finished and the color & finish options have to be decided before ordering.

Luxury Vinyl Planking (LVP)

LVP has a similar look to real wood flooring but without any other wood flooring qualities. Made of vinyl/plastic instead of wood, It is usually a more cost efficient option and considered to be water resistant. This is a great option for customers on a budget, customers looking to update rentals or commercial customers looking for a high traffic resistant wood flooring look.

Color Options

With plenty of colors to choose from, if choosing a solid or unfinished product, you give us an idea of the shades you would like to see ( light, medium, dark, etc. ) & we will lay down samples on your floor during the sanding process for you to have a better visual of the outcome in your space.

Finish Options

Oil-Based Finishes

Oil based finish is our most common choice amongst our customers as it tends to be a more durable finish and has more elasticity to contract with your wood floor.

Oil based finishes tend to last longer and require less maintenance over time.

Water-Based Finishes

Water based finishes provide a clear finish with low odor and a quicker dry time but is a more expensive product than oil base as well as requires more coats to get the final product.
